Cross the Highland boundary faultline and the scenery changes from the
rolling farmland of the Lowlands to the forested hills and mountains of the
Scottish Highlands. This thick forest is the very same mentioned in
Shakespeare's Macbeth as "Birnam Wood". One part of the wood is especially
beautiful - the Hermitage, and this is where you will take a walk.
Surrounded by thick forest, the River Braan crashes over spectacular
waterfalls. This is a migratory route for Salmon, and they can often be seen
trying to leap the falls. Follow the wide
valley of the River Tay, the longest river in Scotland with the greatest
flow of water of any river in Britain. Stop in Pitlochry for lunch (own
expense) and take the opportunity to visit a Whisky Distillery or the dam
where salmon leap in summer.
The Hairy Coo thrives on a simple concept; that everyone should be able to discover the beautiful Scottish Highlands. That’s why we have pioneered Scotland’s only FREE Highland Day Tour. So; the obvious question is, what’s the catch? – Put
simply, we work on a TIPS-ONLY basis. With a
combined touring experience of 11 years, we saw apathy in the tour industry
and wanted to offer our guests an alternative. This allows people to decide
how much the tour is worth to them, rather than being dictated to. As soon
as a 'traditional' tour company have a passenger’s money, it makes no
difference whether they deliver a great tour or not. The tour runs on; Mondays, Tuesdays, (NOT Wednesdays), Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between the months of April and October.
Highlights include;
the world famous Forth Bridge, Scotland's ONLY Lake, the Lake of
Menteith, Lunch in the lovely Highland village of Aberfoyle, The
Lochs, Mountains and Glens of the beautiful Trossachs, Our
exclusive; top-secret, Hairy Coo Off-Road Safari, Hamish the Hairy
Coo at Kilmahog, Monty Python's Doune Castle (with optional tour),
views of Stirling Castle and The Wallace Monument before a
final stop at The Falkirk Wheel, the world's only boat lift and an
engineering marvel.
